Color Vision fabric guide part 3: Mikado

When I started the development of my first collection, I really wanted a very structured dress. Inspired by my idols Cristobal Balenciaga and Pierre Cardin I searched and searched. Initially I found beautiful fabrics like Silk duchesse, Gazar and silk mikado. As a child I always had a fascination with the big shapes of wedding gowns, and through that I found this amazing fabric!
What is mikado?
A tightly woven structured fabric woven with 100% silk or varying percentages of polyester. Mikado is often used for wedding gowns and dresses which acquire an architectural drape.
I used an italian mikado fabric for my MIA mikado dress. It's quite special because the pink is dyed on top of orange which is dyed on top of white. This causes the iridescent color!

When to wear mikado
Mikado is the perfect fabric for formal occasions and gallas. But it's also really cool for injecting your every day style with some structure.
